Every company, big or small must promote their product or service in some way or they will lose to the competition. The more companies that are vying for the same target audience in an area, the more promotion the company must do. Setting your name apart from the crowd is the main goal but you need to determine what message is coming across your promotional materials. If you are a green company and advertise yourself as such, can you cannot afford to be using promotional items that are not green as well. First, a flair for marketing and promotions is necessary. Having a degree in business, marketing, sales or design would be beneficial as well. You would be in direct competition with advertising firms of different sizes and philosophies for your every client. In large, urban areas, you might be competing against nationally recognized advertising firms that have multi-million dollar accounts. In smaller areas, you might be the only company of your type in the area. What do I need to get started?
You need a few good ideas and the capital to make your samples. Introduce yourself to business leaders whenever and wherever possible. Let them know what you can do for their company by ways of advertising and making a greener impression on the business they hope to get from increased marketing. Persistence will eventually pay off for you.
